Congratulations! Penny safely delivered a spotted bay and white colt foal April 28, to the delight of the volunteers and workers at PeopleHelpingHorses.org. Penny, a bay and white paint mare, came to PHH from Skagit County Animal Control along with 5 other horses; three said to be in foal for spring, 2010. The horses were seized March 3rd due to a lack of care. They were emaciated, and covered in rain rot, and were badly in need of new homes, veterinary care, and second chances. With her foal safely on the ground, Penny is well on her way to recovery, and happier days.

This group of horses all have pretty good ground manners, and do not appear to have been mishandled, although a few have lameness issues with their hind legs. We will see how they progress with good feed and farrier care. They are still improving on a daily basis.

Penny has been a very sweet mare from the beginning, and she stood patiently as we came in to meet her darling foal. What a good mother she's become. Thankfully, our neighbor has a nice pasture where Penny and her foal may be turned out to play, when the ground dries a little more from the spring rain. Thanks to our many donors and volunteers, we may all look forward to enjoying further pictures of a happier looking Penny, with her beautiful foal.

To help contribute to Penny and her foal's continued care, please visit our donation site at PeopleHelpingHorses.org, or bring your family to visit PHH during our Emergency Benefit Mother's Day Horse Show, May 8th, 2010.
